It’s easy for us to become resigned to the muscular tension and anxiety we experience from the stress in our lives. Studies show that stress is related to a wide variety of illnesses. The truth is, our bodies are well equipped to deal with stress. After all, without stress we wouldn’t survive or grow. It is usually the mismanagement of stress that causes the real dangers to our health.

Mental anxiety is translated into muscular tension by your brain. Massage & bodywork relieves muscular tension by producing and sending a signal to your mind that orders your muscles to unwind. In fact, working on just one area of the body, like the feet for example, can produce whole-body relaxation. Clients report feeling soothed, re-energized, and better able to tackle challenges

Our bodies were designed for short-term stress responses. The longer the stress response, the greater the risk to our health. Cortisol, a stress hormone released by the adrenal glands, functions to raise blood pressure and break down stored energy reserves in the face of a real or perceived threat. Long-term release of cortisol kills memory-forming neurons. Numerous studies at the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami demonstrated that massage therapy is a very effective tool in intervening in a long-term stress response and lowering cortisol levels.

"Being on the phone most of my work day is stressful, and during my weekly massage I can actually feel the tension and tight muscles in my neck and upper back melt away. A massage from Ken is the best gift I could ever receive."
